BROOMS

Artisan Brooms Rooted in Tradition

Handcrafted brooms, thoughtful design, and workshops
celebrating the enduring craft of broom making.

We are thrilled to be making custom handmade brooms/besoms at Duomo Gardens!

In each workshop, students will learn the fundamentals of broom craft while exploring the history, culture and folklore surrounding this timeless craft. These besoms are beautiful pieces of folk art and offer a wonderful introduction to traditional craft.

Together we'll create a variety of beautiful, functional brooms using broomcorn, African grasses, agave fibers, and other natural materials.

A handcrafted besom is both a practical tool and a beautiful piece of folk art. Rooted in a rich history passed down through generations, broom making embodies cultural heritage, artistic expression, and the joy of creating something useful by hand. Every broom carries the marks of its maker, making each one truly unique.

Long before mass production, every household relied on handcrafted brooms made from locally gathered materials. While modern utility has changed how most brooms are made, the handmade broom continues to be valued for its craftsmanship, beauty, and connection to the past.

The tradition of broom making offers a tangible connection to our ancestors and their way of life. By preserving and practicing this craft, we honor the past while carrying forward the knowledge, skills, and wisdom that have been woven through generations.

Across many cultures, the broom has also carried symbolic meaning. In some Indigenous traditions, brooms are regarded as sacred objects associated with cleansing, renewal, and healing. The simple act of sweeping is seen as a way to clear away stagnant energy and make space for clarity and new beginnings. Approached with intention, broom making becomes a meditative practice—one that allows the maker to weave care, presence, and purpose into every piece.

Whether you're drawn to the history, the craftsmanship, or the simple joy of making something
with your hands, we hope you'll leave with a beautiful broom, new skills, and a deeper
appreciation for this remarkable tradition.
